First of all, Murrow open house evening info is on their website (I’ll have all these dates on the HS411 website later today):

GET ACQUAINTED / Open House Evenings
Wednesday, September 28, 2016 @ 7pm
Thursday, October 20, 2016 @ 7pm (Specialized Programs)
Tuesday, November 15, 2016 @ 7pm

No registration is needed for Get Acquainted / Open House Evenings.

And I thought I’d share some info that will be new to some (welcome folks!) that I’d sent before, but now that classes are about to start, might resonate differently. It’s interesting how info that made little sense a few months ago, will suddenly click things into place now that it’s relevant and timely.

The list below might help as you're thinking about what schools you’ll be looking at. It was compiled by a group I’ve worked with - they researched schools they thought had the best college readiness programs. It could be nice to have a more streamlined list of schools to look at than delving straight into the high school handbook, which can be overwhelming.

And here is the DOE’s calendar of high school related events:

It’s a great start but I’ve found it to be incomplete, with some incorrect info posted as well. Work in progress.

A few quick notes about timely things:

Bard Queens open house reservations go live on 9/8, Bard Manhattan on 9/13 (no time is listed on their website yet but in the past it’s been at 10am). Both schools say visiting either one gives you and equal sense of the curriculum and set up. Easier to get a spot at a Queens open house these days, but Manhattan is having three instead of one, so I’m thinking sign ups might not be as intense. And the citywide high school fair is 9/24 and 25. It’s a singular experience - tens of thousands of people there packing the hallways of Brooklyn Tech. But, great opportunity to speak to lots of different places and perhaps discover things not on your radar. I went early and it wasn’t quite as crowded as it gets later in the day.
