The mayor announced in an op ed today that he wants to ditch the SHSAT and change the admissions policy to NYC’s 8 test in specialized high schools with some changes happening as soon as 2019.
Currently a state law protects the SHSAT as the sole admissions method at Stuy, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. The other 5 specialized high schools were created under Bloomberg and aren’t part of that original mandate. So, unless Albany decides to move in another direction, this, at least for the 3 big schools, isn’t going to change any time soon.
Should be an interesting battle to watch.
